Bertha's Books and Bookery

Hello:

This is about Bertha's Books and Bookery and of course about Bertha, Herself (with Capital A — Bertha always knew that compared to her all humanity was present to see to her comfort through companionship, service and providence).

It has been my privilege — almost everyone who knew Bertha felt privileged — to know Bertha for at least half of her life. Incidentally, the people who didn't feel privileged to know Bertha usually felt that Bertha bossed them around. So, by the way, did the people who felt privileged.

Bertha had her own special chair — a recliner — and her special dietary needs and her special brands of music, about which, like the diet, she could be quite demanding. For music she preferred above all Glenn Miller. However, she liked Tchaikovsky and eventually developed a fondness for the recordings of old western music by Larry Dean. She was of course fond of literature and liked to be read to.

Bertha was an expert on everything imaginable, but especially the food she liked and the places she liked to rest. If someone occupied her favorite chair, an imitation leather recliner, without her specific permission she could be almost vicious in her reactions. And those who weren't impressed by her size soon learned that moving was preferable to her basilisk stare, which some found quite intimidating. Some? Hah! Everybody.

But if she liked you, she liked you, and you had better be prepared to like it. Bertha didn't consider things like "lump it," especially if she was the person expected to do the "lumping." Bertha didn't "lump" things.
She pretty much ran the household and often greeted guests as they entered. If someone got the "Bertha seal of approval" everyone else had better like it.

Bertha was a real "party animal" and roamed the room — wherever the party was — demanding — and getting — her fair share — probably more than that — of attention.

So, anyway, this is sort of Bertha's blog. In this, as in else, "Bertha rules!" as those who have met her would say,

However, since I'm doing the work, Bertha's Bookery will allow commentary on literary works, including my own. That is, if she considers them to be "Bertha's Books."

This will begin at the next post, since I have some promoting to do.
